Our Vision
To have the character of Christ and reproduce it in 12 people
For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.
Romans 8:29
God's vision for His church
God's plan for His church is very clear: He wants each of His children to be made in the image of His Son or, in other words, for us all to have the character of Christ.
And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.
God builds the church, which is the body of Christ, so that all (it says “all,” not “some”) may attain the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ or, again, so that we may all have the character of Christ. The way God chose to build His church is through the church itself. This means that each of us has a responsibility to help our brothers and sisters so that we all become what God determined from the beginning.
For this reason, we do not see the members of our church as attendees who simply gather on weekends, but as leaders who serve God in building His church. We disciple each person to reach spiritual maturity, but also to help others grow.
Why 12?
This is a question that Pastor César Castellanos also asked himself before beginning the Vision of the Government of the 12 in his church. He details his experience in one of his books:
I began to ask myself: Why did the Lord train twelve and not eleven or thirteen? Wouldn't it have been better to train a large group at the same time? Since having a larger number of people would make the work go much faster, why did He only invest His energy in twelve? What is the secret behind the twelve? God used all these questions to bring clarity to my life regarding the model of the twelve. I could hear the voice of the Holy Spirit deep in my heart saying to me, “If you train twelve people and manage to reproduce in them the character of Christ that is already in you, and if each of them does the same with another twelve, and if they, in turn, do the same with another twelve, transmitting the same feeling among each other, you and your church will experience unprecedented growth.”
Essentially, we focus on each person discipling 12 others because that is what the Lord Jesus did when He was on earth, and we, as His disciples, follow His example.
